Last week I bought some lighting gear (lightstands, umbrella clamp, etc) and the long weekend gave me a chance to have a play with them. I felt a bit guilty after dragging Menzel away from Call of Duty for third time so I gave up and started doing some selfportraits…it’s a bit weird trying to think about the lighting in the photo without concentrating on your own flaws though.

This was just one umbrella above and slightly CL, and gelled flash lighting the neutral wall blue (just to see if I could). I think maybe another light for extra separation would’ve improved it, but for now I only have two strobes so it was a choice between rimlighting or colouring the background.

I’ve been tossing up the idea of trying to do 365 Days again…I think I might do it just for the challenge of practising lighting more often.
