Mark and I went to the hospital on Saturday to visit our friends and their newborn bun, fresh out of the oven – isn’t she adorable? Look at those little rosebud lips!

(Not crying, just yawning. Awwww.)

After nagging my parents for months to let me take some family portraits, I finally managed to get them in the same place at the same time with enough time to take some pictures!

We had SO many silly shots like this! I really like it though, some of my favourite shots are the silliest ones. I wanted real photos of us the way we actually are, instead of some stiff posed portrait. (Which is lucky because there was no chance we would have been serious long enough to get one of those!)

This was also a thinly disguised excuse for me to have a practise with lighting and I was really happy with the way it turned out! I used three strobes: the 580 into an umbrella behind me, and two bare speedlights camera left and right. I used the optical trigger on the SB26, and cactus triggers on the other 2 – I must have the best luck with those things, because I don’t think they missed a single shot. Such a simple setup but it worked a treat.

Also, I edited these in Lightroom instead of PS like I normally do…the workflow was a lot faster but I definitely prefer the control of working in PS. And I just noticed that the white isn’t QUITE even on the background.
