Japanese Flare

December 20, 2008

Since I last wrote, I quit my job, spent three weeks in Japan, and started a new job. It’s been a busy month! I’m slowly going through the photos from Japan, but it’s taking me a while. I took around 2000 shots while I was away…I thought that was pretty conservative really (we took about another thousand on the IXUS) but between the new job and Christmas it’s taking me longer than I expected to sort through in Lightroom. One thing I really noticed about being in the Northern Hemisphere, the light seemed very different from what I’m used to at home in Oz. That beautiful afternoon light felt much more vibrant and buttery than at home! We do have the “magic hour” when the sun is at that lovely angle, but it’s a bit different…maybe I’m just imagining it, haha.

Meiji Jingu – visitors to the shrine write their wishes on a prayer card, then the monks pray for the wishes. People from all over the world leave their wishes there to be seen by everyone who passes by – I could’ve easily spent ages standing there reading them all. Hopefully the monks can read a lot of languages!

We happened to be at Meiji Jingu on a weekend, so we were able to see a traditional wedding! Lucky us!
