After Dark

January 21, 2009

It was dark when we got home but I still wanted to try this — I had to go to ISO 1600 to get any colour in the sky. Shutter was about 1/3rd of a second (yeah, it was really dark!). WB set to tungsten with a gelled flash just off to the right.

Would work better when there was more light, or at least another fill light on the face, but it was still fun to play with! I’ll have another go when I’m more organised BEFORE it gets dark :)

Gilles St Markets

January 18, 2009

We braved the scorching summer heat to hit the Gilles St Markets today. They’re held once a month and I almost always forget, but over summer they’re held every fortnight so I have more chance of remembering!

We started off the day with poffertjes. Because, you know, we needed strength for shopping. Mmmm.

This shirt is in relation to the poor, blind 78-year-old flamingo that was bashed in Adelaide Zoo by some moron kids.

Care for a peddle powered smoothie?

And we finished with gelati! It was 33 degrees so I think we deserved it after a hard afternoon of shopping.

Incidentally, the gelato place downstairs from my office has the world’s most poorly designed icecream cooler – it breaks down whenever the temp gets above 30 degrees. (Great design for an icecream cooler.) Last week I came downstairs desperate for something cool and tasty and it was broken down yet again so I’m kinda bitter about gelati in general now…

Is it baby season or what! Lately every time I turn around people are having adorable little sproglets. All good news for me if I get to take photos of them though! This little bubba belongs to my cousin Craig and his wife Julia. Behold the mind melting cuteness:

[Zoolander voice] It’s not easy being a ridiculously goodlooking family.
